So yesterday we saw a nutritionist. I say "we" because it semed rather silly to go by myself when Carl does all the cooking and would probably have questions I wouldn't even think about. So we went and I have a whole laundry list of things I need to keep track of in my Food Diary. The biggest culprits to control: Sodium and Carbs. But mostly Sodium. GRR!
We've printed off some nutrtional information for some of our favorite restaturants. EEK! I've probably been consuming around 8000 mg of sodium a day! Some of our discoveries have been pretty surprising: did you know that the menu for Buffalo Wild Wings actually has more low fat, low sodium choices than Chili's? It's true. TGI Friday's is reluctant to disclose the sodium content of any of their dishes, but Uno's pizzeria publishes their ingredients and actually provides a filter on their website to help you manage your diet according to different parameters - sodium, cholesterol, calories, etc. Olive Garden actually publishes recipes on their website! Denny's restaturant actually publishes the most complete information we've found so far. It's been interesting frightening finding out what's actually in the food we've been eating without a second thought. No wonder I weigh so much!
We won't be able to get to the grocery store until Friday, so we're stuck with eating out for the rest of the week because our new fridge is practically empty at this point. Just going to Panera for lunch today was stressful; I thought all of it would be totally healthy and good for me to eat. WRONG! After hemming and hawing for close to half an hour at home with the nutritional listings we printed, my final choice still turned out to be too high in sodium and carbs. Ugh! This food selection re-training is definitely going to take some time.
