Last night, at church Fr. Paul got up at the end of mass to give his holiday greeting. He announced that among the college students home from accross the world, grandparents, and new families in attendance at mass, there were also 2 soldiers who had just returned from serving in Iraq the day before. The entire congregation (we are talking thousands of people) stood and applauded those 2 soldiers in a standing ovation. I can't think of anyone who deserved it more. I don't care if you agree with Bush's policies and I don't care if you agree with the war or not. Those 2 people, to me, are hero's day in and day out just for serving our country...puting thier lives on the line...for so many people they have never even met. THAT is the greatest Christmas present I could have ever hoped to get. And to be able to thank them, well that was all the more special.
We must not forget those people dying to save our lives and our freedoms. I know that many people, me included, believe this war was unfounded. But that does not change the fact that we are there now, and our Soldiers are not to be forgotten. I don't care if you have faith or not...Pray for these men and women, most of them no older than we are. If anyone deserves your faith...it's them.
