I'm not sure if I'm actually cleaning up my mess from two studio classes or just merely rearranging things into new piles.
Tonight I succeeded in moving enough things around the spare bedroom floor that I could vacuum. I really needed to vacuum too. There was a reason a strand of black seed beads was in a baggie...but I forget when I opened the baggie. Ugh! Beads, everywhere!
As usual, hubs surveys the disaster and says "There's got to be a way to organize all this!"
Lord knows I've tried. I have two IKEA Raskog carts, at least a dozen magazine folders, six bins in our big Kallax unit, one cabinet in the living room...and that doesn't include all the blue Rubbermaid totes of yarn, fabric and whatnot. Oh, and the Alex drawer under my desk. And more. There's always more!
The trouble with running a small art business on the side is that you need so much and unless it is organized, you spend too much time and money finding, losing and replacing things. It's just the little stuff I have trouble finding. The big stuff is all organized well, such as:
- Envelopes and shipping supplies
- Show displays and suitcases
- Show inventory
- Pencil crayons, scissors, adhesive etc
It's just the bits and bobs I struggle with. I'm looking at Staples and will probably get a hanging file box. Metallic cardstock isn't cheap and even the small bits can be saved for something. Actually one of my goals will be to not buy as much paper, which is hard for me. We all have those things we stress buy and for some reason, for me, it's paper. Pretty pretty paper that is too nice to use up, of course! I'm beyond help, I swear :-D
