So I hesitate to say that my HP has been on the fritz, because it really hasn't been, but it's started acting... funky since March or so. Correction. More funky than it always had been. This computer has always had a little bit of funk to it. Since I got the computer, the screen has what appear to be dead pixels, which are not dead pixels. It's almost like they're lighter than the rest. Also, every so often, something gets stuck and I end up TYPING IN ALL CAPS and then my mouse (and coinsidentally, the commands) won't work correctly. Those have always been issues. However, recently, (besides the power cord going the day before graduation) it has shut off on me spontaneously, restarted spontaneously, and will do weird things with the screen when I alt+tab while playing World of Warcraft (which it never used to do). Today, when I turned it on, It was just black and white/grey lines going across the computer. I had to restart it. Eric said that he thinks my motherboard is going, and I suspect that he's probably right. After all, it's been about 3 years and the insurance policy is about to run out, so it makes sense that this shit would happen now.
I got an HP Pavillion dv5000 (15.4") when I graduated from high school. It has:
AMD Turion 64 1.58 GHz
100 GB hard drive
1 GB RAM
64 MB ATI graphics card
And, of course, MS XP professional SP 2 (at the time)
Today I purchased a Sony Vaio FW series (16.4") from Newegg.com:
Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz
250 GB hard drive
4GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 512 MB
And, sadly, Windows Vista Home Premium, SP 1
The HP cost me around $1,500, I think. The Sony cost me $964.92, including shipping.
I <3 Newegg.
