I'm covered in chihuahua's.
They're on my lap, playing on the ground and getting underneath my feet and they're adorable!
When they're quiet as they are now.
Of course as I thought and typed that one started barking as a passing car. *sigh*
I'm excited about the show that's coming in from NYC that I'm doing props/set for with Insight Out. Much more put together than the plays for Genocide Awareness Weeks that's currently going on and that I'm "performing", if you can call it that, on Friday. Love the politics, cringe at the lack of artistry. But it is another role of theatre and while I may be a snob, I love that theatre is being used to bring to light social issues by run of the mill folk. Art serves the community. I just wish it was more organized.
I'm quite excited to begin rehearsals for The Imaginary Invalid. They seem like well organized, professional folk and Toinette is a great part. I'm going to have a blast. :)
Sadly, I chatted with the production manager at ART (Artists's Repertory Theatre) and there's almost nil in the way of wig/make-up work here. Neither equity house has the budget for my skills on a regular basis, so if I'm going to survive in theatre I'll be doing either a lot more tech work, hope to grab a lot of IATSE work which, if I go union, would nix the non union pay work, or go elsewhere. There is the temp option of course, but I hate temping, and I'm loath to find a day job. One because I hate the idea of having one again. I haven't had a mundane day job since right out of college and it feels like a step down, but Portland's not a theatre town. Of course I might luck out finding some kick ass part time job with some group I love, which would be great, but I don't want to fall into the "too much focus on day job, too little focus on my craft" downward spiral that snags so many artists...
I still need to send my voiceover to the local agency and am waiting to hear back from another agency. There are 2 in Portland it seems. :-/
And who knows, maybe Utah Shakes. will offer me a job, as I've applied.
