I had a lovely night's sleep last night ... but it wasn't really surprising that I slept so deeply because yesterday I had been awake since 04:40.
What woke me was a sound that I usually only 'suffer' from once a year when I spend a long weekend at a Viking market in Denmark. It was the sound of horses...
In fact it was a small herd of about twenty horses trotting down the main road which is just visible from my bedroom window. I did wonder about calling the police about this potential danger as cars speed along that road at night because they don't expect to encounter anything. But the cars appeared to be slowing down in time so I lay down again. Then I heard them again, coming back up the road! I also saw a young man on a mobile, so I thought he was calling the police and didn't bother about it. Then the horses came back and went up a side road which leads to the remanants of this area's ancient forrest - and from there you can reach some fields where the horses could graze. No sign of police though and the young man spent ages standing at the entrance to the road the horses had last gone up. Not sure what happened next because I was beginning to get cold and so curled back up under my duvet and read a bit until it was time to get up for work.
