Day 7 - Character you’d most like to slap
Continuing in theme from the previous day's prompt, the anime character I'd most like to slap is Kei Takishima from Special A (an only slightly less obscure series). Or, more to the point, I'd like Hikari, the female lead, to slap him, or beat him in a contest of any kind.
The whole premise of the main plotline this series annoyed the heck out of me: Hikari cannot beat her rival Kei in any competition of any sort, though she does beat everyone else, which she manages on the basis of hard work and he manages through natural talent alone. I sympathized with Hikari, I wanted her to win, and she never does.
And the series presents this against a backdrop of "but he's obviously in love with her and she's completely oblivious to this fact, so it's all okay." No, it doesn't. Love does not mean give up your dreams.
It's not even that Kei was particularly a jerk that I'd want to slap him, but the set-up of the series as a whole for Hikari's hard work and determination to never pay off for her in a way she cares about. (The only good thing about the series is the sheer silliness of when the animation budget fails and my memories of all the girls in club, particularly Whitney, crooning "Yahiro earned his watercolors!")
