“It’s the only way to pass on our knowledge. The Bijuu will be back in another generation, two, no matter what we do now. Jinchuuriki will come again whatever we instill in people because ninja don’t have morals, they had power.”
“Rei, it’ll kill you,” Byakko begged.
“No, it’ll kill us all,” Seiryuu both snapped and reassured her.
“Like fuck it will!” Santai yelled in protest but she was still holding her husband Hokuto’s hand tight rather than leaving.
“We’ll become something eternal.”
“No, we’ll go out with a boom,” Seiryuu countered Gyokunyo.
Byakko burst into a rain of tears, but Rei smiled slightly at their support. “The monastery is gone; we are the last of the Ten of the Order of the Rising Sun who will ever exist.”
“We can achieve immortality through this. We need a guardian for this, for after we’re dead,” Kuuchin pointed out.
“Suzaku, don’t you have a younger brother in the little town where it never stops raining? He has chakra but isn’t a ninja. We could make him our executor,” Nanju suggested.
“What will we put the power into?”
“The Rings of the Ten. And the God’s statue, of course.” Rei was the high priest, no one accused him of heresy. If he said it then it was the will of the God.
Byakko kissed him passionately, but offered her ringed middle finger towards the statue.
Genbu intoned. “Let us begin. The sun sets as demons’ tails block the sun.”
Rei continued the chant as the chakra began to rise. None of them would live, but none of them would have lived regardless. “We are the Dawn, the sun that rises red. We are Akatsuki.”
