Day 4

May 02, 2011 10:08

Hey y'all!
I've just finished composing the final exam for my class.  Yay.  It actually didn't take that much work, but I was dreading it because I'm so bad at coming up with essay questions that have the right amount of specificity, but still allow them enough room to show what they know.  Let's hope I did it well.  I'll know by the moans and groans tomorrow :)

I don't know if I've mentioned here that I've decided to take out loans for next semester so that I don't have to teach and can just write.  I love teaching, and that's the problem.  I spend way too much time teaching and grading and not enough time doing my own work.  At any rate, I've decided to sit out this fall.  So, my point in telling you this is to ask if you have any tips on frugality for me.  How do you scrape through the tough monetary times?

--Moving is not really an option, and my landlords have told us they will not raise our rent, so our place is actually cheaper than most places I could be living.
--We can't take on another person because (1) there's not another proper bedroom, just our studies and (2) I think housie would have a cow.
--We don't have cable tv
--I almost never buy clothes

Problem areas:
--I eat out way more than I should.  When I get stressed I just can't get it together to meal plan and go grocery shopping (grocery shopping is a difficult thing for me--I'm exhausted when I finish and I always freak out in the check out line).  I'm going to work on this, but suggestions for lunches are particularly welcome.
--Book buying.  I am doing better about this in 2011.  I'm using the Uni library more.  I don't really use the public library often because I can never guarantee I'll get the book read in 2 weeks, and the library is not really convenient since there is almost no parking.  I just have this acquisition problem with books.  I love them and I love to own them.  :)

Tips and tricks are more than welcome--they needn't be on the areas I've mentioned.
Luff you!
