"I took
purplejellybaby to see Stevie Wonder in concert Tuesday night for her birthday and _oh_my_GOD_ can that man put on a live show!!
We got there in plenty of time to get some food at the mobile vendors outsite the Dome and after much humming and harring (on my part) we found food and a place to sit and eat. I know there is a lake near or in the Burswood complex but I was not prepared for the amount of FLIES!! Ewwww I hate flies! And I have a real objection to sharing my food with them, which I must say I managed not to do to often.
The line had already started when we were done with dinner so we decided to reserve our place rather than wander off and come back. We didn't have to wait long for the doors to open and the line to start moving, which was good. The people checking tickets had these little hand held scanner machine thingys that played a little tune each time the ticket scanned correctly and was found to be valid. I can imagine that would get Really annoying after the first few hundred people were in!!
We had pretty good seats (I thought) and we were at the front of our section so we had plenty of leg room :) The downside to this is everyone is walking past you when looking for their seats, which is especially annoying when the show has started and they stop right in front of you so not only can you not see the stage but you cannot see the big screen either :( ... oh well, it didnt last for long. The seats were those hideously uncomfortable plastic things that were all joined together in the one big long row. They're very narrow.. and I've got a big bum, which made it worse. But we endured, without getting to up close and personal with the people sitting next to us.
The show was late starting, but once it got going he was right into it and it more than made up for the delay. There were two guys that won a competition to go up onstage and sing with Stevie. The first guy was good, but obviously nervous, which I think may have affected his singing ability. I dont remember the song that they sang together but it was one I recognised. The other guy could really sing!! and if he was nervous, he didnt show it! WOW. Stevie didnt sing at all for that song, this guy did it all himself. It wasnt a song that I recognised but it was just great. He suprised all of the band and backing singers on stage as well as us in the crowd who were expecting a carbon copy of the one before.
Superstition was the last song of the night to be played. I dont think he could have got away with not playing that :) All of the old songs were played towards the end of the night and most people ended up on their feet dancing and singing along. Most people were chanting and cheering, hoping that he would come out again for an oncore, but the only people that came out on stage were the roadies that were packing up. He did sing for around two hours, so I though we did really well for the night.
When we were on the way out the door of the dome we were told by a staff member to "go to the side as you're going out and you wont get pushed".... ok..... they were holding the door open to let everyone out without having to go through the revolving doors one at a time. Now, as the dome is held up by air pressure... this creates a jet of air that you join and get pushed along by. It was quite a ride :) It gave you a nice ride along the footpath and almost deposited you in the car park :) Cool.
The process of getting out of the parking area, really, wasnt that bad. We did have to wait in line at the payment machine... but we were chatting to the guy behind us who kept saying "that was AWEsome" :) and it was.
We walked.. or were pushed... out of the dome at 10:45pm, I dont remember when we got home.. but I went to bed just after midnight and got up at 5am to go to the gym. I do remember saying "Noooooo" when the alarm went off in the morning :)
Stevie puts on a great show! "
I'll just add that I didn't get to bed until after 12:30 and had to get up for work at 4:40am!!
