Shayna says: So I'm curious to know, my writerly friends, who lives in your head? Do you see patterns in your characters? Think about it and tell us all about a few in your own journal.
*Cough* Me? Well...
The Woman in Red: The slightly cliche sexpot in a red dress. She tends to be aggressive, but largely powerless. She's forced to rely on others, many of whom she alienates with her harlot ways and big mouth. Sometimes a forced lowering of status can inspire a softer side of her, but most times she's just bitter about it. Carlita and Rita are women in red. Ashpoint too, if you tilt your head and squint.
Glass Soldier: They want to fight for the weak and the helpless, but a lack of personal power, fear, or a misguided sense of right and wrong prevents them from really doing good. They are often in positions of some power, often surrounded by the corrupt and greedy, and posess a highly developed skill set that makes them valuable. They are more likely to have a stable romantic relationship than most other characters. Renzo, Lindsey, and Tawny are glass soldiers.
The Even Handed: They are unfailingly just, but not necessarily fair. Their mercies are tender, but dispenced only rarely. The even handed are blue and green, symblically. They usually had power and have lost it through no fault of their own. They will defend their own with violence, and tend to be skilled fighters. Justy, Jo, and Janice are even handed. ('J' names are also a theme. :] )
One Legged Ballerina : These are, at first glance, frail and in dire need of protection. They might be a ward, a sidekick, or a lover, but they usually latch onto a glass soldier or an even hand and shelter under them. Their helplessness isn't nearly as deep as it seems, however, and when pressed they can be as lethal as any of the others. They also show an overwheliming trend of being gay boys. Michelle, Max, and Chuck are all one legged ballerinas.
Dirty Little Secret: In everyone's past, there is something dark and stinking and full of maggots. Everyone has been a victim or an abuser. Everyone has fallen from grace. Everyone has something to hide. In Wirebreadth, there's a drug addict, several pedophiles, a violent sex addict, and autistic savant, and one little loonie off their meds.
