Seven things about me that you will probably survive without knowing (but I'll regale you with them anyway!)

Dancing: Salsa! Can't resist the music, mostly because I love a bit of hip-swinging, and being led by a guy is really fun, and not at all like other styles of dancing. Plus, if something goes wrong, it's always his fault! *grins* I also love to go to clubs to dance, as well as Woolworths, as my friends will tell you! I can happily dance to anything, though a good beat that' heavy on the base will really get me going!

Japanese movies: Not only are they funny, but they're cool in the way that they're directed and the character dynamics, plus the overall look and feel is tangibly different to western movies. I also love the action sequences, becuase they draw heavily on their culture, which also fascinates me to no end ;) Most recently watched japanese movie is Curse of the Golden Flower, directed by Zhang Yimou, who is amazing and deserves eternal worship. I also love that amazing filmmaking offshoot, anime. Smaller screen, but no less in any other way, anime is quite possibly the most addictive thing in the world after heroin. I watch too many to list here, but it's definitely worth watching Trigun, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Bleach and Samurai Champloo. I'm also a big fan of Saiyuki, but only the Reload anime is visually unlikely to make you puke...

Manga: Where to start, where to start? ;) Saiyuki is my favourite, obvoiusly, but I actually started out on Blade of the Immortal, which I found in Borders bookshop on Tottenham Court road ages ago. I then discovered Saiyuki in my local library, and I've read waaaaayyy too many since! I love the stories, the art, the cultural notes, but most of all I love the readability of manga - They're amazingly hard to put down once you start, and once you start, you're hooked. Unfortunately, my library had a ready supply ;D My tastes range from shoujo like chobits and Love Hina to heavier stuff like Saiyuki, Chrono Code and Get Backers to humor like the Free Collars Kingdom, Sci-fi like Escaflowne and Deus Vitae and 'traditional' style like Samurai Champloo and Blade of the Immortal. Plus any mix of the above. Like I said, I'm an addict ;)

Writing: A serious passion of mine. I love writing and reading stories, be they fiction, non-fiction or fanfiction! I started reading kinda early when I was young by virtue of being the eldest child and my mum not working at the time. I quickly developed a voracious appetite for books, and was hopelessly addicted to my encyclopaedia when I was about 12. I eventually tried my hand, and experimented with original writing, branching out into fanfiction when I discovered first pokemon then Saiyuki (though I'd rather forget the whole pokemon fanfiction phase entirely). I've still yet to put up a load of early (and recent, for that matter...) stuff, but I draft everything about three times, and often can't find the time to type anything nowadays, but I'm getting there. Possibly the best thing I ever did for my habit of writing was sign up to LJ - concrit is a wonderful thing! ;) I will write whatever, whenever, but I most often find myself writing fanfic and random little snippets of anything. I especially like fantasy, dark, porny and weird, often surreal styles of storytelling, though that's not to say I don't frequently dabble in humor, Sci-fi and alternative genres/styles. The key word is experimentation!

Drawing: ...But before writing came drawing! I've been drawing since I was old enough to hold a crayon, and just carried on from there! My most creative streaks tend to occur at random times, like mid-class, in the bath and on the bus. I quickly learnt to never be without pen and paper, ready to note down good ideas, and now the many post-it notes and scraps of paper rule my bedroom ^^;;; Most of my art has been fanart lately, because it's a nice escape from reality, and I do enjoy messing around with recognizeable characters. I joined elfwood yonks ago, though haven't updated recently until I can put enough items on a ticket to make it worth the month-plus wait for it to be modded. Thinking of joining DeviantArt, particularly as the adverts whenever I visit really bug me. Not to mention the mature-content piccies being inaccessible - I'll be the judge of how suitable it is, thank you! Despite drawing largely anything, I've never really drawn anything porny - I guess I lack the experience, though I'd certainly do so, in some sort of 'secret depraved drawings' pad or something...

I draw everything in pencil and frequently colour using Photoshop Elements 2.0 (yes, I know it's archaeic now...). Possibly the biggest mistake in the universe was giving me that program, because I will use it. All the time. I used to use watercolour a lot, but it's messy and I don't have that kind of time anymore *woe* I'm terrfied I'll make some sort of irreversible mistake and ruin a piece...

Music: Love it. No music = no life. I love all styles bar ostentatious black rap and crappy folk music. And that stuff that's all talking. It's clever, yes, but where the hell's the music?. Have a big place in my soul for heavy metal, classical, film score and stuff like Keane and the like. Big on Alexis on Fire, Anastacia and random Jpop at the moment, particularly Reira, Yuna Ito, Ai otsuka and Ayuma Hamasaki. Fave film scores include LotR, Pirates of the Caribbean, Phantom of the Opera, Eward Scissorhands Tha Last Samurai and most of all Final Fantasy XD Gotta love traditional-japanese-based music like the soundtrack for bakumatsu kinkansetsu irohanihoheto, which I got off LJ incidentally... I also enjoy composing music on my keyboard, which I play whenever I can; I have no clue what grade I am, probably around three, but I don't let that stop me! I'm getting my housemate to teach me violin in a music trade-off, where I teach him piano. Someday we'll actually start... I dream of someday writing a film score, though it's unlikely, and my brother has my undying admiration for being in a relatively successful heavy metal band. They even have a MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/heal1. My favourite songs are Alienate and You. They're currently recording stuff, and I'm helping with drafting/storyboarding their first music video!

Science: I'm a serious lover of all things scientific. One look at my degree course (Masters Biochemistry, currently second year at Bath), would probably clue you in somewhat, but science has been a source of fascination for me since I first found out about space when I was very young and began to wonder how it all worked... Now, I'm finally finding out! I have subscriptions to New Scientist and Chemistry World because I love hearing about all the new stuff going on, and, if I'm honest, I want to be a part of everything! I chose Biochemistry in the end because physics was far too mathy and I wanted to get answers to all those irritating questions like "But how does the brain store memories?" and "But why do I look more like Dad than Mum?" Finally, I'm starting to get my answers, but then it leads to even more interesting ideas, until you hit that boundary where you have to go find out for yourself. It couldn't come fast enough!
