Personally, I think there should be two processes. The Government side of things, wherein two people are bound financially and according to law. Then the seperate, whatever your religion is side. They SHOULD NOT be the same thing. It's absurd. The only reason people complain about gay marriage is religion, and the literal use of the word. Get marriage the fuck out of the government's hands, and make EVERYONE have to go into a civil union. Who could complain then?
As for people having an issue with gay marriages due to reproduction? Last I checked, we didn't exactly have a shortage of human beings. I suppose in theory, if every human were gay, and we stopped reproducing, and for some reason we couldn't defeat it with genetic engineering, then yes, this would be a problem.
Also, what about straight couples that refuse to have children? Should they be forced to?
The issue, when it boils down to it, is plain good old fashioned uncomfortability. Religion's a good cover, but it's usually fear and disgust. Making it just like any other sort of bigotry. Which is why you can compare anti-gay measures with anti-race measures, because ultimately it's a bigotry based off of a natural occurance. "Illness" or no. Not even a dibilitating "illness". It'd be less like saying Crazy people can't marry, and more like saying "Those with phobias of snakes" can't marry. It just doesn't make any sense.
