breathe in, breathe out.

So I have been very closely following the swimming high-end races recently because of the new racing suit craziness, and have been fascinated by this recent technology battle.  That is neither here nor there, except to mention that--

One click lead to another, and suddenly I am reading about track and field.  And then suddenly I happen across this article about a South African athlete who is so good that people are questioning her eligibility to compete as a woman.

First of all, let's mention the fact that critics don't believe that women are physically capable of running as fast as she is running, and let's get pissed about that.  Secondly, let's mention how alarming it is that every article I've read is concerned with her gender, not her sex, even though track and field segregates by sex.  Third, I cannot believe how public this has become, and I don't understand why the athlete doesn't have some sort of right to privacy (does South Africa really not have some equivalent of HIPAA?) regarding results of medical tests.  I am also horrified at the language used to discuss the "situation" in general.

I am feeling very concerned about how this is developing, and truly worry for this athlete's safety.   I am also feeling really sad and helpless because I don't know what to do.

If anyone knows of a way I can be directly supportive of this athlete and/or if anyone knows of an organization that is advocating on behalf of her safety and privacy that I could support, please let me know.
