I just got back. It was a disaster. I couldn't even make it three miles without having to walk the rest of the way home. I am slowly recovering, as my hands/fingers lose the tingling feeling. It's my own fault.
This run was in the extreme hot and extreme sun on blacktop. This after too much wine last night and never rehydrating myself properly today (coffee and water, but not nearly enough water). This after a rough winter of being sick (five colds and one flu), causing abrubt starts and stops at the gym. And each year I forget the way that stationery bikes and treadmills and elliptical machines DO NOT prepare you for the terrain of the outdoors. Not to mention, I didn't wear the proper socks. They were cut to low, and now I am sporting a most painful blister--it's throbbing. My entire body is throbbing, and I feel like such a #@%#$%ing wimp!!!! I can't believe this.
I am so frustrated with myself. Still I look forwad to the next outdoor run or bike ride 'cuz I know that it just gets better and better. I like to see that progression. And I can go back and reread this entry and remind myself how badly I got my ass kicked this afternoon.
I will also drink enough water. I also need to pick a new route. This route didn't bother me last year, but I'd run early mornings before traffic. This year I can't do that really. Too much of it was on Rte. 30, a main drag, esp. in the late afternoon. YUCK. I'll go exploring later. After I recover and shower.
