So I've finally given into Spotify. I thought I'd try it and have discovered that it actually does loads of stuff that is really useful for me, it's just that Mr
bigr0d uses it in a very different way to the way I do. So now that I'm finally entering the age of digital music properly (about 10 years late, ah well) and it has awesome add ins like a last.fm hookup so that I can listen to last.fm's suggestions and then download albums straight into my own music library, and also songkick to get me out to gigs, I'm all set. This is therefore the year that I will be getting back into having some idea what the hell is going on with music, I hope.
In the spirit of which, here are some gigs I'd like to go to. Does anyone have any interest in joining me?
- Mastodon supported by Dillinger Escape Plan - Saturday, 11th February, Brixton Academy. I would be SO up for this, but sadly it's the same date as I'm being a bridesmaid at a wedding. So this is just a heads up.
- Pop Will Eat Itself - Friday, 23rd March, Electric Ballroom, Camden. I've not seen them live. I think a lot of you went last year, but I was being too useless or something?[Update: seems to be some confusion over the date of this but I just got my ticket for this date]
- Electric Wizard - Saturday, 31 March Kentish Town Forum. We all need more doom in our lives, you know it. [Update, I've bought a ticket to this, so let's hope someone wants to come!]
- Desertfest - 6-8 April, three venues in Camden. Headliners Orange Goblin, Karma to Burn and Corrosion of Conformity. This sounds awesome, but I don't know what else I know that is interested in this type of stuff. Someone, hopefully.
- Skindred/Therapy? - Friday, 13 April, Brixton Academy. Don't know Skindred that well but they're well known for being awesome live and a good fun band. What's not to like? [Update: Bought a ticket, looks like people were already going anyway and, hey! Therapy? too!]
- Placebo - Saturday, 28 April, Indig02. I think I'm at Whitby for this, sadly, but recommend anyone who likes them goes. I saw them at festivals recently and they were incredble. Do it.
- Alkaline Trio - Saturday, 12 May, Barfly, Camden. I'm thinking this will have sold out already and you will all shout EMO at me. But, y'know, whatevs!
- All Tomorrow's Parties - I'll Be Your Mirror, Alexandra Palace, 25-27 May. The line-up is awesome, it's ATP on our doorstop and frankly, you'd be mad not to. I've told quite a few people about this already, but you should definitely join me. I bought my ticket about 2 months ago. Also, WOO!!!!!!!!!!!
So there you are, looking for gig buddies right now. Let me know if you're interested in any of that. I'll carry on trying to catch up with the last few years of music, then!
