So yesterday I had an e-mail tutorial session. It was...odd. Funny but odd. Best quote of the session, when referring to my character Ellie and the lies she had told my tutor made this comment: "Maybe its me. Maybe I have problems trusting powerful beautiful kind women." XD
From that session we agreed to work to the 7th, have another session on the 10th and go from there, writing and editing in tandem. In order to do this I sorted a few things out. First I promised myself a reward if I managed to write another 10K by the 7th - a purple PSP and Birth By Sleep ^_^ This I think is a good method. I got through a lot of my BA coursework by promising myself a reward at the end.
Another way to motivate me is targets/deadlines. With that in mind I created a little chart dubbed 'Countdown to Coursework' seen here:
It might not seem clear what is written on it but this picture shows that it is constantly in my line of view as I work as reminder.
For those who are curious as it what it says at the top it says Countdown to Coursework - 9 chapters/18,000 words (these are the estimated finish point of the novel - it could actually be longer)
Underneath that it numbers the dates from today (28th) to the hand-in date (Sept 30th). Eighteen days contain the number 1000 so that each day I reach that goal I cross it off to mark my progress. Other notes include my tutorial, when I can obtain my reward (if I deserve it), days when I've arranged other things and might be busy, and three days of catch-up writing in case something goes wrong one day. The remaining days are left blank for redrafting and also the possibility that there might be more writing.
Today has been a good day in that I almost doubled my first quota. Today I wrote 1770! ^_^ To celebrate a good start to the countdown I got a chocolate muffin. Positive reinforcement ftw!
