In The Forest of the Night airs tomorrow - the last standalone Doctor Who ep before the two-part season finale. At this point last season, just before Neil Gaiman's Nightmare In Silver graced our screens, I posted my
summary of Clara theories, which has now once more become relevant in light of the end of Flatline. This time, I was intending to

Far, far too much for one person... So I am very grateful for your excellent work and will most definitely send people here!
It is definitely an issue with HIS perception of the world/himself and I know Clara is mostly amused by it all, and doesn't let it bother her. It's more just the fact that kit unfortunately plays into a much larger problem in media generally, where women's bodies are just there to be commented on, and certain parts of Moffat-hating fandom are using this as further 'evidence' of his 'misogyny'.
These people should all be forced into watching Press Gang. Or just have Lynda Day shouting at them until they begged for mercy. >:)
Mmm. Quite. Look what happened to him last time all his companions left him. Oh, and the time before that…and Twelve is *much* less personable than Ten or Eleven were - once Clara leaves, there's no guarantee he'd be able to find another person willing to travel with him. (Of course we the fans know he will because that's the show - but he doesn't know that.)
Yes, Ten and Eleven could have them eating out of their hands, but Twelve is not good with people. He could always just abduct someone the way he did Ian & Barbara...
OOOOOH interesting. I hadn't come across that! Based on what, exactly? I'm not sure I can see it (her personality, what we've seen of it, seems so odd!) but it's not beyond the realms.
I've tried to look, but I can't find it. It might have been lyricwrites? No wait! This is the thread. And there's another idea further down (if you look at the whole post), the very last comment, I think.

YES GOOD. (Not that I've seen Press Gang, but I know about Lynda Day!) Argh why are people so rubbish.

Ahaha, lol that would actually be a really hilarious call-back. I would really like to see some different Companion intros. Maybe a TARDIS stowaway, or a Companion from the past/future. Actually, what I'd REALLY like one of these days is an old-school handover between companions - there used to be crossover between them! It was like an unbroken oral storytelling tradition, handing the Doctor over from Companion to Companion. We haven't had that in the new series.

Oh wow, there's LOTS of stuff going on there! Hmmmm. I agree with you that the possibility of Missy actually *being* some aspect of Clara is probably too complicated, but she could certainly be intended as a dark mirror. And I love the idea that she might want the Doctor to be the general of some army she's building - I hadn't connected the dots to get that! That's very good, and fits very pleasingly with lots of the soldier-y things going on atm. The question is still, though: what for?
Am also VERY keen on all the Persephone stuff - it is, as you or Promethia said, the perfect myth for this show. River was definitely Persephone, but then so was Amy - and so is Clara, with her fixed schedule for 'Doctor life' and 'Real life', regular as the seasons…until it's not any more, and Doctor Life in the 'underworld' takes over. (OMG. Remember that 'Winter is coming' joke from The Snowmen??)

I am working my way through it and it is WONDERFUL. And people who think Moffat has issues with women truly should be forced to watch it.

I'm all for a different introduction, yes! And with Moffat we've had them overlapping, but not handovers.

Well MY (vague) theory is that if Missy is the Master, she could have been sent by Gallifrey to contact the Doctor to help them. But of course, being the Master, she's gone off and done her own thing. But whichever she is, then building an army by snatching dying people into her own afterlife is a fascinating idea. I am hoping today's episode will shed a little more light on her. (I presume thematically, unless she actually appears again which would be neat. Like Kovarian.)
