Finally...

Today Dustin and I went out to GIbson Woods to do some work with Mighty Acorns, and I realized, this is exactly where I'm meant to be. I realized how, as much as I may not get along with some of the others that are here for the season, they can't taint this place for me. I won't let them; it's as simple as that! This is my home, my calling, where I belong. I love watching a kid's face when they step up onto the top of the dune and see Lake Michigan for the first time. I love being surrounded by the incredible and intricate nature of creation on a daily basis. I love the thrill of teaching, and learning at the same time. The small joy of showing a child what the inside of an acorn looks like, or letting them taste a cactus. Most of all, I love our fabulously dysfunctional family and all of our quirks. And that is something you will never take away from me.

I've been looking at graduate programs and other environmental ed. centers around the country, and all I can think about is the fact that we have it so much better here. We have a chef that pays each and everyone one of us personalized attention. We have a boss that treats us like the children that he never had, and would unquestioningly give us the shirt right off of his back if we asked for it. A supervisor who will stand up behind us, no matter what. And for that, I am truly blessed. As far as my future is concerned? I guess we'll just take it one day at a time.

Peace,
