My Week

Jul 30, 2009 12:53

Monday Work from 11 to close (7:45). That's it. Loooooong day.

Tuesday Originally, Tuesday was going to be:
11 AM: Stephanie
2 PM: Chiropractor
3 PM: Room cleaning with Ryan
5 PM: Dinner with Dad?
7-8 PM: Head to Ryan's to await his arrival.
With the possibility of Katie King (and her husband, Zach) stopping by sometime in the afternoon.

What happened:
11 AM: Stephanie
12 PM: Don't feel like seeing the chiropractor. Call and reschedule. Take the long way home, Rte 89 with the windows down, enjoying the sun and views. :D
1ish PM: Ryan arrives, eats breakfast.
2ish PM: Katie and Zach arrive! We hang out a bit, then we randomly decide to call Devin and go hang out with him.
2:30 - 4 PM: The five of us hang out, talk, cuddle pets, enjoy company, etc.
4:30 PM: Katie and Zach drop us off back at my house so Ryan can run off to errands and Dad night. I call Dad to see if he wants to get dinner, leave a message.
4:30 - 5:30 PM: I pack up for staying at Ryan's, then...melt on the couch.
5:30 PM: Dad calls. We're both tired. No dinner for us.
6ish: Mom gets home. We veg on the couch together and chat for a while. Eventually, I leave for Ryan's, and melt there instead.

As I put it on Facebook, my day had a wonderful interruption when Katie dropped in :) Good thing I didn't go to the chiropractor, she would have found an empty house!

Tuesday Night Jess IMs me.
Jess: I'm moving!
Ruth: Cool!
Jess: Can you help?
Ruth: Uh, when?
Jess: Uh, tomorrow through Friday?
Ruth: ...uhhhh

So, Wednesday
10 AM: Alarm goes off. Ryan and I give it the finger and sleep some more.
11:30 AM: We get up and start the day.
12 PM: Do a run to the Stafford Dump.
12:30 PM: Grocery shopping.
1:15 PM: Arrive back at Ryan's with groceries and "breakfast" from Dunkin Donuts.
2 PM: Jess calls and says yes, they still need help! I leave for her house.
3 - 8 PM: MOVING OF LOTS OF STUFF. IN 80+ WEATHER WITH 90 FUCKING PERCENT HUMIDITY. IT IS DECIDED THAT REFRIGERATION (AND THEREFORE AIR CONDITIONING) IS THE GREATEST OF ALL MANKIND'S INVENTIONS.
9 PM: Arrive back at Ryan's. We go get McDonald's for dinner.
9:30 PM: Watch The Usual Suspects. Great fucking movie.
12 AM: Take a shower.
2 AM: Go to bed.

Seriously, moving was a lot of fun.
It was Jess, Ari, and me, filling two cars (Toyota Corolla and Pontiac Vibe (fold-flat seats are third on the list of man's greatest inventions)), one Jeep, and a trailer.
First Jess's place, than Ari and Kristen's place.
My day was made up of "That's what SHE said!" jokes.
I heart their new apartment to pieces, and the building is both brilliant and kind for providing not just a pallet, but two shopping carts for moving stuff in.
Damn those thing were helpful...and heavy.
My legs have been hurting ever since....well, since about 5 PM yesterday. I have a couple of impressive bruises.
I still think Ari should have dumped that bed frame and bought a new one to assemble in the apartment, instead of the two of us carrying it up three floors. OW.
Lots of driving, lots of sweating, lots of swearing.
Lots of fun. :D

Thursday (so far)
9 AM: Alarm.
10:30 AM: Chiropractor.
11:15 AM: Arrive home, give the cat some lovings, make a sandwich.
12 PM: Work.
1:37 PM: ...and here I am!
4 PM: Get out of work, call Dad, see about a walk.
4:30 PM: Hopefully meet Dad in Storrs so I can deposit my paycheck before the bank closes.
7 PM: Meet Chris at Willi Brew.
8 PM: The REAL party begins! Drinking, eating, merriment, mayhem, etc etc.
12 AM: Arrive home and crash.

Friday Work from 10 to close, dinner with Dad after that. Another long day, to cap off the week!

MUSIC!
Ryan and I have been working on a mixed CD, probably thinking about it more than we should. But it's been fun to pick out songs we're obsessed with, that work well together. We seem to have an accidental "theme" of songs with a kick-ass beat, with a heavy 80's lean.

1. Jukebox Hero - Foreigners
2. Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel
3. Superstition - Stevie Wonder
4. Around The Bend - Asteroids Galaxy Tour
5. Dance Tonight - Paul McCartney
6. Freedom! 90 - George Michael
7. Rock Me Amadeus - Falco
8. Don't Bring Me Down - Electric Light Orchestra
9. River Of Dreams - Billy Joel
10. Viva La Vida - Coldplay
11. Home - Marc Broussard
12. New Shoes - Paolo Nutini
13. Feelin' Good - Michael Buble
14. Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics
15. Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
16. Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand
17. Hysteria - Muse
18. Welcome Home - Coheed & Cambria

I dreamed up the CD with only the idea of having #s 1-3, 5, 6, and 9. Ryan helped flesh it out, and did the actual work of choosing the order (he's really good at it).

Problems: Sweet Dreams just doesn't fit the mix, Billie Jean went apeshit a minute and a half in, and there were songs that we realized needed to be in there. Then, Ryan didn't have some of the songs I had (I burned the first mix).

1. Jukebox Hero - Foreigners
2. Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel
3. Into The Night - Santana feat. Chad Kroger
4. Superstition - Stevie Wonder
5. Around The Bend - Asteroids Galaxy Tour
6. Dance Tonight - Paul McCartney
7. Freedom! 90 - George Michael
8. River Of Dreams - Billy Joel
9. The Pretender - Foo Fighters
10. Viva La Vida - Coldplay
11. Vertigo - U2
12. Home - Marc Broussard
13. New Shoes - Paolo Nutini
14. Feelin' Good - Michael Buble
15. Paralyzer - Finger Eleven
16. Hysteria - Muse
17. Welcome Home - Coheed & Cambria

Problems: We're realizing that Feelin' Good doesn't suit the mix well, not sure Into The Night does either, Hysteria is just too bassy for our cars, Ryan insists The Pretender doesn't sound right in my car, and I had forehead-smack moment yesterday: why the hell didn't we think of Linkin Park?

So, the plan for the next one: Change Into The Night for Because Of You(Nickleback); change Hysteria for either Dark Shine or Butterflies & Hurricanes (both still by Muse); possibly change The Pretender for The One (also Foo Fighters); replace Feelin' Good with Faint(Linkin Park). Might also throw in some Shinedown.

Besides the aforementioned heavy 80's lean, we noted a few other things: A slight change from 80's to rock/metal as the CD progresses; almost half the artists are European; all but one of the artists are male (Asteroids Galaxy Tour has female lead singer). Fortunately, I'm a pretty low alto, but even with that, there are some songs that just don't sound right when you sing them, unless you have a pair of testicles. Home and Paralyzer are great examples of this, although Freedom! 90 also just sounds WRONG when I sing it...

Alright, I'll stop with the obsessing over a MIX CD. :D

As previously mentioned, signed up for classes. They are:
Grammar, Usage, & Style -- MW 5:30 - 7 PM
Reporting & Writing News -- TR 12:30 - 2 PM
Introduction to Computer Graphics -- TR 3 - 6 PM

I gave my boss my available hours as August 31 (MW 7 AM - 4 PM, TR 7 - 11:30 AM, Friday and Saturday as normal), and she seemed disturbed that I couldn't do evenings anymore. I was sure that I'd be stuck only doing Fridays and Saturdays, which would basically halve my hours. Or, worse yet, that she'd just let me go for someone who could do evenings.

!But! Today, she says that, since I'm free all day Friday, she'll probably just have me do 11 to closing, and take the whole day off for herself! :D She's also going to try and keep me in the middle of the day one day a week.

If all this works out, I might actually have more hours than I currently do--only 4 or 5 per pay period, but hey! More is WAY better than less in this case!

Only problem is the 12-4 day...she said Thursday, and I couldn't remember if that was right, and now that I've looked it up I see that it won't work. Which means either Monday or Wednesday. Which is fine for me, but no idea if it is for her. I was happy when I thought it was Thursday--that meant I'd work three days in a row. Currently it's Thurs-Sat, Sun off, Mon on, Tues & Wed off. Sounds strange, but it annoys me a little to have that day in the middle like that. I hope she picks Wednesday, but it doesn't matter all that much.

...okay, I've been working on this entry for almost two hours. Time to do something else now!

school, music, friends, omglist, work
