So. Um. Wednesday morning, I found Jasper.
Note that I found him, not he came home. Sadly, when I found him, he was...gone. It had been four days with little to no food or water, and no insulin, and he was...maybe 7 pounds at most, we had actually been comforting each other that morning on the thought that we probably wouldn't see him again. Then I walked out the front door...and there he was.
He was just outside the front door, in the bushes...which actually makes me happy. He loved being outside. So he was outside, but he was home at the same time.
He's buried now, out where Zach and Zebu were buried. We're going to miss him, and already do, but he was on a downhill slope and on his way from "happy enough" to "suffering", so we're glad he went when he did, and where he did. On his own terms, home but outside....we couldn't really ask for better.
Thanks to everyone I've already told who expressed their condolences, and the people who comforted me when he was just missing. I really appreciate it.
So, we're down to Mog, who lives downstairs now and is social on a very particular basis; Clarisse, who hides until Mom comes home and really just doesn't like me; and Tux, the happiest cat in the world who loves everyone. Basically, I have one cat I can pet who will not only let me pet him, but will seek me out. I know I'm lucky to have that one, but...it still kinda sucks. Bastet last October, Zach the November before that, now Jasper...it sucks, straight up. Oh well.
Thanks again, everyone. Back to work for me.
