I watched a live performance of Pinks new song Dear Mr. President...brilliant...tho the amount of apathy by Americans in this day and age make me shake my head at artist who attempt to make any kind of difference by song, picture, word or dreaming.
Americans are so apathetic that they've totally given the religious right the OK to chip away, daily, at civil rights and liberties... it reminds me of the famous poem "First they came…" attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892-1984) about the inactivity of German intellectuals following the Nazi rise to power and the purging of their chosen targets, group after group.
"German Intellectuals=Intelligent people who are liberal(not fanatic liberal)"
"Nazi's = Christian Right (who by their very name are fanatic)"
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

Updated Version for America:
When the Religous Right came for the Homosexual,
I remained silent;
I was not a homosexual.
When they tapped the phones and harrassed the civil rights activist,
I remained silent;
I was not a civil rights activist.
When they came for the Pro-Choice/Women's rights activist,
I did not speak out;
I was not for either.
When they came for the smokers and descriminated against the obese,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a fat and didn't smoke.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out except YOU, the religious right fanatics;
But don't worry, you're next, just clutch your bible tightly and recite vainglorious words...that's always worked in the past.

What we need in the next election is a Democratic black gay atheist who sleeps with the constitution as a blanket...
With over 15 people running for the office, less than 4 meet a 1/4 of that requirement-democratic and only 1 another 1/4 requirement- black. Now if only he'd convert and become a gay atheist I just might vote for him.
Let's hope that the evil witch isn't nominated tho- Then I'd be forced to vote republican again.
btw- Christmas is coming up next Tuesday, anybody psyched out about this years Christmas?
