Cherry Docs and other news

I've been sadly absent from posting - I apologize. It's been a long few days, what with the start of classes, work, reading and shows. I'll sum up my week and let you know what has been keeping me so busy!

This week was the start of classes - and all of my classes are fantastic. Marina teaches Acting and Theatre industry, and they're right in a row AND its all the same people, so most likely we'll have some day's that classes are switched so we can go see rehearsals and things like that. She seems really cool and I like her a lot. She seems very knowledgeable and the class requirements aren't too bad. Lots of reading but the way the classes are organized are very discussion based. We're actually each "teaching" a lesson based on a reading we do; we have to read up on a style of acting and then we'll present to the group and we'll all talk about it based on one of the two plays we have - Land of the Dead and Helter Skelter by Neil LaBute. Good short plays. I'll keep everyone posted on how its going as the class goes on.

Wednesday I have Shakespeare and I ADORE my tutor. He's very old, but very VERY smart. And he obviously loves Shakespeare as well as being able to quote passages from memory. It looks like we're reading fantastic plays and it'll be interesting starting with R&J....do you know I first read that play 10 years ago? Wild. I also have my tutorial for my internship every fortnight so I had one this past week and then I'll have another one in two weeks. But its super informal and since its just the 4 of us plus our tutor we're going to have tea and snacks probably while we chat. We're supposed to get a break in the middle for tea but instead since I have an hour before class I'm just going to make a pot and bring it up. :)

Thursday's I have Text and Performance where we're talking about different ways to analyze plays and performances of said plays. I'm excited and it should be a really good class. Not too much to report except that my tutor reminds me of a British Annie so thats fun. We saw the world premier of Marguerite on Thursday night.....oh my god. It was amazing. The woman playing Marguerite is named Ruthie Henshall and she was marvelous. It was interesting because she wasn't really a soprano soprano, more likely a mezzo. So she was reaching for a few notes, but I think it really just made her character that much more convincing. I bought the album, the entire cast is so talented. Sad of course. I can't see a happy musical now could I? And it would have been too much to remember tissues!! Ha, I got napkins. Its a great musical from the creators of Les Miz. So that was incredible.

Friday night I saw Avenue Q finally. It was so funny!!!! The cast was incredible and super talented and I loved the guy playing Trekkie Monster/Nicky. He was fantastic. Also, the Bad Idea Bears. "I know a drinking game!!! Its called 'I can drink faster than you'. Ready, Go!" Such a great idea. It really is a Sesame Street for adults and I was laughing my ass off for the whole thing. Fab.

Last night I went out to see Cherry Docs (a really interesting show being put on by the theatre I'm interning at), and then went out for a birthday part. So I'm pretty tired. It was a good night but nothing terribly interesting happened. Oh, except that I got a vest!! And the pockets actually work, so I could totally rock a pocket watch. I'm just that cool. Dark gray pinstripe. :)

Not too much else of interest, I'm making lentil soup and reading and just chilling today. Thats all for now, and I'll keep y'all posted!

Cheers!
