LJ, you used to be good.

I just checked LJ for the first time since Mystery Hunt. Here are some of the things I found:
  • Interesting updates from friends
  • Awesome posts about Mystery Hunt (still!)
And here are some of the other things I found:
  • Interstitial ads that hide the close button from you
  • Comment spam in Russian on my LJ
  • Interface pages full of brightly-colored widgets trying to entice me to spend money on worthless icons, or to sign up for Zynga-style, predatory "social" games

You can probably tell I haven't considered it worthwhile to post on LJ for a while. Since it's so clearly worth reading still, for the things you all write, it's too bad that it's so chock full of evil and general suckitude. Facebook is not an answer to any of these things, of course, so basically I've been twitting out the occasional tweet and that's all.

This past week, I fixed this by doing some fun Python and JavaScript hacking and finally setting up a web site for myself (distinct from the ugly personal wiki I hadn't updated since 2006). It's got a feed and stuff. So it's been fun, LJ, but I'm going to be posting my long-form updates there instead.
