Remember to vote! You can see who your local candidates are at
http://votesmart.org. Here are my votes in Cambridge, MA, in decreasing order of interestingness:
- Governor: Deval Patrick (D). He's done a fine job. He invested in stem cell research, reformed auto insurance, and ran a bunch of job creation programs that seem to have actually worked given that Massachusetts is one of the few states that's gaining jobs instead of losing them.
- Secretary of State the Commonwealth: Jim Henderson (Independent). Supports instant runoff voting. His opponent, Bill Galvin (D), is the traditional unaccountable Massachusetts Democrat, who knows he doesn't have to do anything because he's affiliated with the party in power, and even skipped the SoC debate.
- Auditor: Nat Fortune (Green-Rainbow). A physics professor and school board member with a reasonable platform: protect local and school funding, and make sure that large corporations that receive tax breaks are actually using them to create jobs.
- State Senate: Sal DiDomenico (D), because he's not Republican.
- Attorney General: Martha Coakley (D). Because running a terrible Senate campaign shouldn't disqualify her as Attorney General, and because she's not Republican.
- Treasurer: Steve Grossman (D). You can guess the reason by now.
- State Legislature: Alice Wolf (D). She sends out an informative e-mail newsletter, I agree with almost everything she does, and also nobody's running against her this year.
- Congress: Mike Capuano (D), because he's unopposed.
