Especially one's who's going to be as awesome as Barack Obama! Yes, I have high expectations, but I think he'll live up to them (hopefully with a cooperative Senate.) Speaking of which, wow, some of those races are close. And how can Alaska possibly be reelecting Stevens??
I still believe election night is more exciting back east, but I was glad I was here last night since I crashed into an dreamless, alcoholic stupor rather early last night! (Of course, I don't think I would have started drinking quite so early if I were still in NY.) So, catching up now on all the other races, and disappointed about prop 8, and the stupid redistricting prop. Actually, I'm annoyed at our ability to have propositions on the ballot at all, but that's a whole nother rant. What I'm surprised about today is the apparently substantial number of people who voted for 8 but against 4! I expected those numbers to be reversed, so I guess I don't understand the minds of California voters.
Obviously, overall, I'm really, really happy. Last night was the best election night of my life (although I did come to the realization that nothing can ever make up for 2000 if I'm still bitter about it after yesterday!) I started watching election returns alone since everyone was still at work, and I was incredibly nervous that the Republicans might have some magical ability to hack the vote. (I know, it defies belief that they could do this on a massive scale, undetected, but our voting process doesn't exactly inspire confidence.) I didn't stop biting my nails and holding my breath until early returns from Indiana looked good! Then people came by and I started the drinking... now I'm cursing my talent for creating tasty, tasty cosmopolitans that don't taste alcoholic... so, anyone have good hangover advice?
