The State of Emergency

May 27, 2005 12:37

As the LBC has been in a state of emergency for a few days now, I've had a lot of exposure to more rain than I've ever experienced at one time.  I've decided that it has several benefits, as well as many drawbacks.  To review:

GOOD THINGS ABOUT ALL THE RAIN:

-It's making everything really green.  Greener than ever.

-We get to see people we know on the news a few times a night (last night:  Colin's dad, my Grade 7 PDR teacher/B-dot's current Deputy Mayor, and Jack Wentzell)

-The farmers might not have so many drought problems this summer, which would be a welcome change.

-I kind of like that as much technology as we have, we can still be so vulnerable to natural forces.

-Saving on sunscreen

-Seeing manhole fountains on King Street is a pretty trippy experience.

-Cars are all clean.

BAD THINGS ABOUT ALL THE RAIN:

-Duh.... umm, there's some flooding.... seriously bad news.

-My cat hasn't been outside for a week, and she's pretty overweight.  I hate denying her the opportunity to be active.

-My dog smells perpetually bad and he's still as cuddly as ever.

-The flooding

-People are starting to go kind of loopy from lack of sunlight

-Seeing manhole fountains on King Street is also a pretty frightening experience

-Restriction to indoors.

-I've been wearing the same outerwear for seemingly ages.  Getting tired of it.

-DID I MENTION THE FLOODING?!?!?!?!

-Everyone's hair always looks a little worse than usual.

-Tug-of-War season will undoubtedly be later than we hoped in starting.  No use practicing in either open water or mud.
