So tonight Me and Marty and our friend Kate went to the cinema and watched one hour of Pirates of the Caribbean 3. No, it was not so bad that we left in disgust after oly an hur. We were really enjoying it actually. Then *zap!* the screen goes black and the srtip lights come on.
'Huh' goes the audience. (literally every seat was full. It was a loud 'huh.)
'GG!' Yells someone.
'Thar be pirates in the operation booth!' Shouted someone else.
A few people leave, supposedly to find someone with the power to fix the screen. Pirate jokes continue to be called out.
Then, two guys who came to the screening in full pirate costume (the only two to do so) jumped up and staged an impromptu sword fight for the entertainment of all. There's something about engaging in spontaneous applause with a crowd full of strangers that is uplifting. I don't know why. I suspect years of being exposed to spontaneous clapping in American cinema has conditioned me to feel this way.
Anyway, eventually a cinema dude comes in and tells us that on account of the thunderstorm raging outside the power had gone out, and the cinema was being evacuated, and we could use our tickets again at any point in the next six months but we could not finish watching the movie then, no sir.
Driving home was pretty extreme. Crazy heavy rain, and the traffic lights weren't working properly, and there were police cars everywhere. But we got home in the end. We're gonna try and see the movie again tomorrow afternoon.
So yeah, we didn't get to see the whole movie tonight, but we did get to see two grown men in pirate costumes battle it out. Personally, I think that trumps any film.
