I've never done the Boxing Day sales here in Australia, mainly due to the fact that we have a family Christmas each Boxing Day, and because I've lived in the country for so long, and the sales there aren't fantastic (mainly due to the stores only ordering in just enough stock for Christmas; when we were in M****** they would often sell out of stuff mid-December and they wouldn't get any more stock in until mid-January. You shopped early there).
But I was thinking of trying to get some stuff in the Boxing Day sales this year, since the family gathering is at our place and we live so close to one of the larger suburban shopping centres.
Funny how time dulls the memory of the footage that comes from the chaos of the Boxing Day sales, the memory of my grandparents telling us about the queue of cars that went back several exits on the Monash Freeway, all waiting to get into Chadstone (not the close-by shopping centre I had in mind, I'm not that silly). Funny how viewing pictures from the USA's Black Friday sales brings it all back.
Yeah, I think the extent of my Boxing Day sales might consist of crossing the road and looking at the gift shops and Kmart there. It might. It equally might consist of me pulling the covers over my head and helping Mum set up the house for when my uncle and his family arrive.
