So I saw Deathly Hallows 2 today.
I made the mistake of rereading the Battle of Hogwarts again last night, which means I had all the stuff I loved that wasn't in the film at the forefront of my mind. Mistake! Although, given that I knew the part I really really wanted* wasn't in the film (and nor was enough to really give me the Substitutiary Locomotion vid), and I knew where the Neville stuff was going to be Not As Good, I was... okay, relatively, with it. I mean, it wasn't the book. It was never going to be the book. None of the films are the book, and there has been enough cut from the other films that it was impossible for this film to cover everything it needed to.

I saw it in 2D because that was the next screening when I got there, and I didn't want to wait around an extra hour until the next 3D. I can't say I regret that, since I'll probably see it again (in 3D) and I could tell in the 2D where it would give me a headache or be confusing for me in the other format, and I won't have to watch it properly then.

Anyway. Where was I? It's interesting, in that the last film I saw in the cinema was X-Men: First Class, and this film actually opens in a very similar manner. I was blown away by Maggie Smith, as much because I heard that she was undergoing treatment for breast cancer at the same time as they were filming, so she'd show up from chemo and perform like that ♥
I don't have a lot of thinky thoughts right now. They'll probably come, but right now I really want to read the last several chapters of Deathly Hallows again, and insert the pieces I really missed into the film's narrative. Actually, I'm hanging out for Pottermore and the books in eBook form, because I really want to reread all of them and not have to cart, say, Order of the Phoenix around with me.
* "The Dementors' chill did not overcome him; he passed through it with his companions, and they acted like Patronuses to him, and together they marched through the old tress that grew closely together, their branches tangled, their roots gnarled and twisted underfoot... Beside him, making scarcely a sound, walked James, Sirius, Lupin and Lily, and their presence was his courage, and the reason he was able to keep putting one foot in front of the other."
