Today was A Good Day, so I'm recording it for prosperity.

I received a text message on Wednesday that my classes today were cancelled due to staff illness, and decided that because Fridays are normally an Out Of The House day, I'd keep it like that and do some stuff that I felt needed to be organised. For my "Address Customer Needs" subject, I needed to visit two libraries and observe customer service. So I decided to observe customer service by joining two libraries that I normally don't go near. I went and joined both the Box Hill library (Whitehorse Manningham) and the Balwyn (Boroondara), both libraries I go past on public transport on a regular basis.

I also decided to stop off at a yarn shop I regularly pass on a tram (but never have time to stop at). Wool Shop Direct just became my favourite place. They have Noro! And Debbie Bliss! And Jo Sharpe! And so much more! And I pass them on the tram at least once a month, hurrah! (My bank balance does not say "hurrah".)

This might actually get me to knit this winter. I didn't knit much last winter, but there were no yarn shops or even a Spotlight anywhere nearby, and it was all rather uninspiring. But the Twilleys of Stamford Freedom Spirit came with a free pattern for a nice scarf, and I really shelled out and purchased two balls(!) of Noro Silk Garden, which I had a specific scarf in mind for from Knitty but I can't find anywhere on their site or on Ravelry (I started this post at 5.30pm, it's now 6.15pm and I've spent Some Time trying to find the pattern). I think I imagined it's existence -- except I looked at it last year when Mama and Papa Smurf brought back some lovely recycled sari silk for me (which is still sitting there, since it's really only suitable for a scarf, but it's quite rough and I keep getting eczema around my neck).

Okay, losing a pattern is not a good part of the day, but being out and about not having any real agenda and just wandering around the outer suburbs? It makes for a good day for me.

Edited: At 7.30pm, I found the pattern -- Clapotis! ie, the scarf everyone but me has already made. Also the scarf that would require WAY MORE than two balls of Silk Garden, but that would be WAY MORE than I'm willing to pay to make a scarf right now. Ah well. Who knows -- I'll have more money the next time I go past that yarn store. I can always cut down on the width of the pattern and possibly buy another ball then (if they still have this dye lot).
