Much randomness

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

My father has spent today driving in the snow, and apparently there are pictures somewhere to prove it. So I feel justified singing that -- although it was more about the rain the past few days than snow!

Speaking of colder weather, my Canadian friends who laugh at my concept of "cold" will find this amusing. Darwin recorded its lowest June temperature on record today. The crocodiles wouldn't eat (this may not be a bad thing), and Darwin shops were selling polar fleece, gloves, coats, hats and scarves like never before.

The top temperature was a "chilly" 22C (71.6F).

Here's another entry from the Smurfy Has A Weird Subconscious series, aka Meds Mess With Smurfy's Dreams.

Last night I had this nightmare-thing where I overslept and didn't get Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows until midday.1 Although my subconscious clearly loses on the Nostradamus stakes, because "scar" was not the final word in the book, and while I'm a firm believer in the Harry Will Die theories I somehow doubt the title character would be killed off two chapters before the end of the book.

Said dream, however, also featured a pocket watch. I think this was influenced partly by something most of my flist knows about, but also by an episode of Antique Roadshow I was watching yesterday with a rather expensive antique one. However, this pocket watch was an Omega dated from the Bible (it was a gift to Ahab, according to my dream), and had a chameleon circuit in that the gold metal changed to black and white geometric designs and could communicate with other pocket watches and change geometric designs on cue with them.

I think deep down the pocket watch thought it was one of those Tamagotchi 2.0 things. (oh my God, did I just become a Luddite/adult-who-can't-understand-kids-these-days?)

I read a review of The Runaway Bride in The Green Guide, where the reviewer seemed to be under the impression that Rose actually died in Doomsday. To quote Larissa Dubecki, "Picking up where the previous, heart-rending episode left off (including the death of cute sidekick Rose, played by the big-cheeked Billie Piper)". And here I thought she was just stuck in a parallel world, silly me!

Apparently Something For Kate is releasing a "best of". I don't know where my email/mailing list notification went on this -- I expect to know before it is in the newspapers these days!

1 Yes, nightmare. I'm counting on having read it by Saturday evening, dammit! Even if it will never be the same Ultimate Day Of Fangirl Squealing as when Half-Blood Prince was released simply because The Empty Child or S3 equivalent (Captain Jack or Steven Moffat) won't be airing that same evening.

random shit, omg crazy weather, australian media, harry potter, easily amused, weird dreams, sfk, doctor who
