Silly Dolly Ladies

My sweetie is a crazy doll lady...and I love her for it. I wasn't so sure about it at first. I had a lot preconceived ideas about grown-ups who play with dolls. Then I realized that it was entirely harmless. And actually (don't tell anyone) also kind of fun.

It has given me permission to myself to play with my own form of dolls.

When I was a kid my Grandpa bought me a dollhouse. And if was one of my favorite things. I remember the only time that I went to stay with my Grandparents when it was just me (and no sisters!). Grandpa took me all over town to look at dollhouses -- to the library to look at books, and to a place that had some on display (it might have been a museum but I'm not sure). It was the best time I ever had with my grandparents -- all topped off with a trip to this old fashioned cinema to see "The Secret Garden".

My mother also loved dollhouses -- but she used to pretend that it was just for me... For s short time there was a shop in this small market town just over the Pennines from where my folks live. Mum would take me to look at all the really cool things. They had a lot of little shops that I loved. I also thought that the little electric lights were awesome, and the tiny tiny patterns on the wallpaper.

My first year of college Mum dragged me to the far side of Newcastle to show me the window of another dollhouse shop -- again they had some awesome roomboxes. And while I LOVE these things, the fact is that my Mum does too!

Which is why it is pissing me off that she is being so rude about my new collection.

CT brought me a half scale dollhouse -- which I confess I have not started yet. And it went from there...

I got a really sweet deal on some roombox shells and have been playing ever since. I was really disappointed to realise just how shitty the quality of any of the accessories under about $75, so I started making some myself.

The easiest were these really great furniture kits that they made in the 1970s and 1980s, that you can still get on ebay.

And then from there I made my shops.

I started with a sewing shop.

Then I did a "junk" shop. This picture isnt the best -- I'll take a better one with our new swanky camera.

And I had so much fun that I have opened an etsy store.

The problem is that I am easily distracted, so my current room box is lying 3/4 done. I need to fix that!
