I am pleased to announce that I saw my first ever live protest today!
Around 5:00 today Leann and I were going to the Wendy's on University. As we were getting out of the car, we heard some drums and a bunch of banging coming down the street. A second later an entire herd of people marched past us carrying signs in Spanish (that I couldn't read) and mops and brooms and other objects (painted purple for reasons I didn't understand). It was quite a display. I told Leann to get out her camera and take pictures. Some protesters noticed us watching (as we weren't more than 20 feet away) and started waving and beckoning for us to join them. One fellow in particular was very insistent and shouted "Come on, come join us!" We promptly took that moment to skedaddle into the restaurant. Inside, one of the cashiers explained that they were janitors from NSU who were angry about crappy pay and saw how recent protests earned UM janitors better wages.
I found the actual article

So, yeah... probably not the most significant cause ever, but it still made my day a little more interesting.
