Another day of travelling today.
Since our flight was rescheduled from 14:40 to some time after 18:00 due to runway repairs at Bangalore airport, we started by visiting the Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan, at Srirangapatna. This was built entirely of teak wood in around 1800 in the Muslim style. The wood was covered in papier mache and then painted, and is absolutely stunning. Unfortunately this is another place where photos are forbidden, but a nod and a wink to the guard ensured that we snuck a couple of pictures (without flash of course). Beautiful place.
Then we settled in for yet another long drive back to Bangalore airport. On the way we stopped at, you guessed it, Cafe Coffee Day for lunch, but there was a KFC just next door. Carol, Michael, Ed and I guiltily snuck in and stuffed ourselves with chicken and chips, feeling like naughty children! Yum yum.
Eventually we arrived at the airport and said goodbye to our Karnataka driver and helper and our guide Sandihya.
The airport was fairly tedious but there was some shopping to be had - I found a gorgeous kameez/kurta top thingy and several pairs of narrow pajamas that gather at the ankle.
The flight was uneventful and we arrived at Cochin (now correctly Kochi) in the state of Kerala in the dark. I have only vague recollections of the drive from the airport to the Trident hotel in the harbour area of the city. I was very tired that night and didn't have dinner but went straight to bed.
