Day 1 - Flight to India

Mar 14, 2012 14:19

Arrived at the airport too early to check in so I had a large glass of Viognier and a snack at the Cafe Rouge.  By the time I returned there was a ginormous queue, but it went down quickly and I was airside by about 5pm.  Window shopping ensued but the shops at T4 are a bit pants so didn't buy anything other than some sweets and a new eyeliner.
Eventually went to the gate where everyone randomly bundled onto the plane.  Jet do not seem to be the best airline for announcements!  Nice seat at the back by the window.  The plane took off on schedule at 8.50pm.
I was very excited to find that according to the inflight magazine, The Artist was screening.  Less excited to discover that was a lie, so watched Sherlock Holmes instead and was mildly entertained.  Bizarrely, dinner was then served at just after 11pm (or 4.30am Indian time) by which time I wanted to be asleep, but forced a bit of not-too-great curry down before settling down for a snooze.  One good thing about the airline is that all the seats have a shaped headrest that means you don't need a neck support to sleep comfortably.  I slept fitfully, but got at least a couple of hours in before breakfast, which I nearly missed because there was, surprise!, no announcement.
We landed a little early in Delhi.  Met possibly the unfriendliest immigration official in the world, changed some money and waited ages for my bags before meeting up with the group.
There are about 28 of us, mostly older folks but a nice bunch.  Our tour guide, Edward, is as camp as a scout jamboree - a lovely chap but slightly ineffective at herding his flock!
