My Advent Calendar- Day Eight

Ugh, I need to go to bed. Why do I keep on doing this to myself?

Twas the Night Before Christmas lesson

So in my first class this morning, I played my students a youtube video of "Twas the Night Before Christmas," with animation based out of an old illustrated book from the 1940s, narrated by Robin Williams. I then handed out copies of the poem (they had to share because I overslept because I have horrible sleep habits and I didn't have enough time to make lots of copies) and read the poem myself (much more slowly) while they followed along.

Then! (and this is the fun part) They wrote their own versions of the tale. They somehow missed the memo that each student was supposed to write his/her own, so the result was two group poems and three individual ones. Anyway, they did such a good job! Some of them even managed to get in a few rhyming words and a decent rhythm, even thought I told them rhyming was optional.

So then at the end of class there was a bit of extra time, for which I had planned, and I was all ready to show them Glee's "Baby, It's Cold Outside," which I had queued up and everything, just like the first video. But for whatever reason it didn't work. I did have A Politically Correct Night Before Christmas up, so then I just read them that. They laughed at a few of the jokes, so they understood at least some of it.

Good class. I have such great students!
