I Hate Breakfast

I hate breakfast,
It always tastes so yuck.
Mom says it's most important
(Just my luck).
Cereal gets too soggy,
Oatmeal is too hot.
Sister says it's yummy,
I say, "It is not!"
I hate breakfast;
The eggs, toast, and grits.
I hate it all,
The whole bit.
I won't eat breakfast.
"I hate it!" I say.
"Waffles for breakfast," Mom announces
And I decide I'll eat breakfast today.

Commentary:

When I was a kid, Shel Silverstein's books of poetry were popular. I had one of them (still have it, actually), I think A Light in the Attic. Anyway, his poems are written from the perspectives of kids, and they're funny. I think I was inspired by that concept, to write funny poems that other kids would like too. I have always loved breakfast, so this is definitely not inspired by true events. :)
