Quitting Fairy Godmother, 8th grade, for Mrs. Williams

Quitting Fairy Godmother

Bibbity boppity boo,
I'm sick of this through and through.
Helping her, helping him
I quit giving lives a trim!
Don't stop me or think I'm dim;
My decision isn't just a silly whim.
I'm done, I say
Not just for today,
But forevermore
The fairy godmother is nevermore.

Commentary:

I had an amazing teach for Reading in 8th grade and an amazing teacher for Language Arts. (Most of my middle school teachers were pretty good, actually). Mrs. Williams taught Reading, and we did a lot in there. My favorite assignment was probably rewriting "The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf," but the assignment that resulted in this poem was to write a poem from another character's perspective. I missed the day it was assigned, sadly, so I don't know what we did in class to prepare for it. (We read two or three alternative little pig stories, for example, plus the original). Although I didn't follow a solid rhyme scheme or even a vague pattern of syllables, I still really like this poem. How many 8th graders rhyme forevermore with nevermore or him/trim/dim/whim?
