And that's why you should, when the english version comes out, buy the real thing so you don't have to worry about that. Your Heracross will love you for it. (And let's not forget the PokeWalker!)

Never heard that sort of thing happening before though... it forgot saves? Maybe you need to get a different patch altogether... keeping backups of the save file itself via good old copy and paste is also a good habit to get into, I find.

It's certainly a point in favour of splurging, yes. :/ I'd probably get a DS version I can play GBA games on though, that way I could get copies of FRLG and RSE too. Can the one you recommended do that?

I dunno if that's the right way to describe it. I save compulsively, but when it crashes it doesn't register any of the saves I've done since I first opened the rom, if that makes sense. If I save, close the emulator, re-open and re-load the game, THEN it would remember the last time I saved, but it's such a chore to do that every time. :/

It doesn't really crash that often in the grand scheme of things--less than half the time--it's just that it did it twice in one day after having to go over the same ground twice, soon to be three times. And I had a ton of trouble getting the rom to work at all, so I'm wary of messing around with it any further. Maybe I should just close and re-load after an hour's play or something; at least I know I'll have kept that hour's worth, then.

The normal DS and the DS Lite (i.e. the older, cheaper ones) have the GBA slot which enables them to play the GBA games. (So yes, the one I recommended which is known in gaming circles as the 'DS fat/phat', and is just the 'DS' without any fancy name additions can do it).

And yes, that makes sense (I believe it only refreshes the save file if you close the emulator itself, hence it forgetting). Oh well - the price one risks paying for...well, not paying, I suppose. No, really - it does that because it's an anti-piracy check Nintendo's put in HG/SS - it may occur everytime something is loaded in-game, like a phone call event, end of a battle, text bubble appearing... the game runs a check on whether the game is legit or not, so if in that instance it determines it isn't - game freezes.

They also did it with another very recent game (Mario and Luigi 3), only they put something like 30 different piracy checks including that one in there. Nintendo's putting in effort, yo.

But how are you finding the game thus far, game freezes aside?

I knew that there were some that could, but all the fancy name additions trip me up. XD;

Ahh, so that would be why. :x I knew about the anti-piracy check, though I don't think I ever connected it with the crashes. I'd pretty much accepted them as part and parcel; mostly I was wondering why the hell the emu didn't remember the saves unless I closed it. Not that knowing why solves the problem, but at least I can get around it. And I like knowing why.

Yeouch, glad I don't have that game. XD

Nintendo like their fancy copyandpaste names. Basically, any DS NOT called a 'DSi' will play the GBA games.

I told you the games were good. =D

Well, that simplifies things then.

Oh, I was anticipating it the instant I heard the remakes existed. X33333~
