*happy sigh*

i have met the single most amazing man ever.

feel free to dismiss most of this as “early stages of relationship happy glowy” crap, because i’m sure some people will. or have.

whatever.
ask me if i care.

so sunday night i went to the WB After Christmas dance. oddly enough, it was also the 1 year anniversary of the very first time i was there. but that’s beside the point. i was looking forward to that dance probably more than Christmas day because my whole family was going to be going as well, and then on Christmas Eve, i found out that brett was finally going to be joining us! (i’d only been bugging him for about a year to tag along… especially because he has a small crush on ellen. ;) )

well, carpools were frantically arranged when we ended up with more people than seats. and then brett got in a car accident. poor guy. thus marks yet another failed attempt to get him to WB. at any rate, ellen and grace and i got there before my family, so we staked out spots, changed shoes, took a few pix, and i huddled in my jacket until the band started because my spinny little red satin halter dress wasn’t quite enough to keep me warm until i started dancing.

made it to the side of the dance floor in time for the second tune, and this adorable tall guy with a pinstripe vest and glasses comes over towards us. now, i’m used to ellen being chosen “over” me in these situations when we’re standing side by side. not only because more people know her since she’s been going longer, but also because she’s gorgeous and a really good dancer.

but he walks straight to me, hand outstretched, and asks for a dance with the lady in red.

we got to talking---as much as two people can talk when spinning around a dance floor---and the more i heard, the more i liked. he mentioned going to moody for awhile. he’s a musician. when he found out i played horn, he said that horn and oboe are his two favorite instruments. i mentioned surprise that he would say oboe (no offence to the oboe players in my life, you know i love you :) ), and he brought up a few classical pieces. i brought up the prevalence in soundtracks, quoting Pirates of the Caribbean. he---being a sci fi geek---commented about a Star Wars theme done by the oboe. to which i replied, “and the ‘Luke and Leia’ theme is done by horn.” at which point he gaped at me for a second and then blurted, “marry me.”

to which i cheekily replied, “when?” ;)

and then at the end of that dance, he informed me that i was a great dancer and a wonderful dipper. (what can i say, i took a class.) and then said to save another one for him, to which i replied i absolutely would.

danced with him many more times throughout the night, and enjoyed each more than the last. he commented to me at one point that he’d been trying to get a dance with me for awhile and each time he was just that far behind someone else and he kept missing me and ending up following me around like a lost puppy. (which ellen later confirmed, as i was ridiculously oblivious to that fact, since if i’d seen him, i would have danced with him instead.) finally after one dance, he asked if i would like to get coffee with him while he was still in town. (family lives here, he---for the moment---lives in TX.) we exchanged numbers, then he brought me over to his table to introduce me to his brother and sister-in-law, saying, “this is dawn, the girl i’ve been telling you about.” :D

God bless my sister who saw the sparks when i brought him over to introduce him to her and benjamin (mom and dad were on the dance floor enjoying a slow dance), and the final time we were on the floor together, she got out there with her camera and got two lovely shots of us, one of which is an elegant dip. (*glee*)

we texted all through monday, at which point he said he was too old for games and told me flat out that he really likes me. :D which made things so easy after that, since we were both free to say what was on our minds without trying to play any stupid game about holding back how interested we were in each other. monday night we were on the phone for several hours, and the more i hear, the more i like.

he borrowed his brother’s car and picked me up tuesday night for dinner. i was ridiculously nervous to see him again, which seemed ridiculous to me considering how well we’d clicked initially. when he hugged me at the front door upon arrival, we just stood there holding each other and he asked, “can you feel my heart pounding?!?” i had to laugh and admit i couldn’t tell if it was his or mine. and the ice broke, just like that.

we were “that couple” in the restaurant who couldn’t stop talking and staring at each other long enough to actually look at the menu and order a meal. (we had a very gracious waitress.) and we were there for close to 3 hours just talking. (obviously including dinner in there. i promise, we didn’t starve.) then we went back to my place where we talked more. and he finally kissed me.

oh… he’s good. :)

dawn = puddle

we spent more time cuddled on the couch talking. he’s already looking at his budget/schedule for 2011 to see how often he can come visit. said his parents would really like me now because i’m bringing him home. (he showed his parents the picture of the two of us, since i’d posted it to FB, and his mother’s response was that i’m lovely. his father? thinks i’m hot and have great legs. lol… i like them already. :) )

it doesn’t matter what we do or what we’re talking about, we just keep clicking. we fit. from being an extreme gentleman to shared faith and morals, to how he holds my hand, to how i fit just under his chin when he hugs me, to how in our text conversations we’re answering the questions the other person is typing simultaneously.

AND…?
he doesn’t have an issue with the size of my shoe collection (which is immeasurable at the moment). he was a professional theater costumer for awhile and as such is the nattiest dresser you may ever meet. and he owns more than 3 pairs of shoes. (he says he’s the gayest straight man i’ll ever meet. ;) )

we’re going out dancing to WB on NYE. :D
i absolutely cannot wait.
CAN. NOT. WAIT.

i have a serious case of the likes for this man, and it’s getting stronger and stronger every day.

not looking forward to him leaving on saturday. :(

i’m also starting to hate the state of TX...
