Is it morning already?
Look outside for certainly
a day’s not a day without a shoe in the road,
dropped by the gods from a telephone wire looking to score.
The buzz of turbines inside cranium cavity:
Wake up and stay up for once!
Doors slam and fall over, noises echoing in the corridor.
Something must be lost out there.
This room is upside down,
one hall separated from another by a door,
walls all around and slightly slit windows,
who can say which part is a passage?
Perhaps you are locked outside,
asleep in the halls of the Futureworld,
ignoring all outward signs of life,
busily dreaming of the faces of tomorrow,
drawing their verbal outlines in a little black book
where you hide your dreams under lead stains.
Wake up and stay up,
this is not what you should be doing.
Though you are not certain of what exactly,
this cannot be it.
The door is still locked
and the neon light behind you is bobbing up and down
on the humming screen before you.
Do not be afraid of this foldup Ulysses,
sneakily adventuring the corners of a man-made universe
casting luminescent shadows of green giraffes on your nursery wall.
These images will lull you to dreaming,
waking into the other corridor
to find
that while you were sleeping somewhere else
and dreaming of here,
this place dreamt quietly of you.
