And oh, this feels so real. Dean has a zillion reasons to be scared of fire. I'm liking the feeling right now that if this fear was canon, Dean only likes salt 'n' burns (my favourite hunting pastime) because he has control over those flames. Although... have we seen any since s4? I don't know. Still... Dean. Gah. Great fic.

Yes. This.
This thing where show never managed to address the fact that by all rights Dean should have huuuge issues with fire drives me crazy. So yeah, I decided he actually likes salt'n'burns because it's his way of controlling the thing that scares him the most.

Huh. I dunno about past s4. Occasionally maybe. Like...there was that spirit in Swap Meat and the little kid ghosts in The Real Ghostbusters. Nothing major though I think. Which is a pity. I miss the shots of them standing over graves, lighting these huge-ass matches.

OH OH OH

Dean totally has a thing with fire, and I love the idea of him trying to take control of it this way. This made me shiver. In a good way :)

Exactly! There is no way Dean doesn't have some serious issues when it comes to fire. It bugs me that show never cares to address the whole disconnect between the Lawrence fire and the salt'n'burns...

You know, I've always wondered about Dean's relationship with fire. If I'd been in a house fire aged four, I think I'd be pretty scared of it too, yet Dean never seems to be on the show. Interesting how you've turned that into a way for him to connect with his mom.

Painful stuff.

You read my mind. It's too late now, after they've both been to hell and everything, but I still want some sort of mention of Dean being freaked out by fire, or you know, fire meaning anything to him.

You have fabulous taste in music /off-topic.

I really liked this. It can be hard for me to buy Dean self-harming, but this made perfect sense. And the ending...gah. I can only imagine what Sam's reaction must have been when he realized just what it was that Dean wanted him to do.

Heh, what music are we talking? Johnny Cash or Annie Lennox?

I have serious trouble believing either of the boys self-harming. At least in the classic cutting kind of way, but that prompt just kept staring at me, so I had to come up with my own spin. I'm so glad you found it believable.

Annie Lennox. Not that there's anything wrong with Johnny Cash; he's just not really my type.

lol, well I listen to exactly one song from each of them. One of them inspired the title, the other one I was listening to while posting.
