There will be something here tomorrow once I have seen 'The Shakespeare Code' again, cos I watch it for story first time and for lines the second time. It makes more overall sense to me that way. Just now, though, I am too tired to do anything more than make this observation, then go to bed

The 'words mean power' thing was done fairly well, I thought. I loved how the Doctor said that Rose would've said the right thing, and then Martha ends up saying the right thing to finish Shakespeare's 'spell'.
I have not seen Life on Mars. I want to. Time travel and the 70s are both things that I love, so I don't understand why I didn't watch it when it started. Now I don't have the time, and even if I did, I'd have to rent the dvds just to catch up. Maybe I'll get them in the summer, once I'm done with all the other things I have to read and watch. I also really want to rent All Creatures Great and Small. I need more Petey.

You need to see more Four. He has SJ. And Leela. And K9. And Romana. And Adric (he's more likeable with Four than with Five, I find). You have my list of recommendations :o)
Well, the queen was wearing a ruff, wasn't she? I think the Doctor was just giving Shakespeare a ruff he'd found, and telling him it suited him. After all, he wouldn't have found a ruff in the theatre's supplies (which, I assume, is where he found it) if they hadn't already been in fashion - which, as you say, they were.
And yeah, I love The Unquiet Dead too. That's the one my godson found terrifying :o) And Nine being a Dickens fanboy - adorable.

One thing I forgot to mention - I thought this was the most like Classic Who New Who has ever been. Lots of running round, and even (i think) some shaky setness. And just general more classicy :D
