There will be something here tomorrow once I have seen 'The Shakespeare Code' again, cos I watch it for story first time and for lines the second time. It makes more overall sense to me that way. Just now, though, I am too tired to do anything more than make this observation, then go to bed

Crisis you couldn't find? *is confused* I thought the plot made perfect sense, for the most part. Or at least, it didn't not make sense.
Haven't seen Shakespeare in Love (apart from a five minute snippet while waiting for a programme to start), is it a higher budget? I thought TSC was the highest budgeted episode? It certainly shows, CGI and costume-wise, I think.
I was hoping too. For about ten minutes my head was going "how can I fix this if he doesn't recognise the Doctor? It could be before Shakespeare met him." Then 'City of Death' crashed into my head, and for the rest of the episode, in a tiny voice in the back of my mind, Four kept saying "I told him it was a mixed metaphor, but would he listen?" Four helped him write Hamlet, and that's definitely canon, so maybe he was pretending (as Ten) not to have met him before so that he wouldn't figure it all out? Or maybe he was just pandering to Will's ego? He probably thought he'd be a bit offended if he had a fan who wasn't all eager, and he couldn't say he already knew him, since he hadn't met him yet.
Oh, it would so be worth it. That's it - when I'm older, I'm getting two cats: Cat, and Shakespeare. One after the Cat from Red Dwarf, cos I've wanted to for years, and now one after Will so I can say that. Heh, I have an icon that totally fits, now. Martha channeling the Cat *giggle*
As for the last HP book - it occurs to me that Martha's time of origin is a bit hazy. Doctor Who is a year ahead of us, so Martha should be from 2008. So surely she would've read the seventh book already? She doesn't mention the alien incidents of The Runaway Bride when she's talking about the existence of aliens in S&J, so it's possible she's from 2007 instead - but I think it likely that the Doctor would avoid London 2006-07 for a while. Either because it'd get him all depressed, or because he might run into an earlier Jackie. Or both.
Probably. Sarah Jane also has an Aladdin's Cave of an attic, if you watched her thing on New Year's Day? I love that attic. She has pictures of Harry and the Brig!
I understand the need to have a little fun, but surely that's stretching it a bit?! Grr. - What is? *is a bit lost*
And yeah, there seems to be some sort of formula there. *sigh* Hope they won't stick too rigidly to that. Although I much prefer this over Tooth and Claw :o) There are more aspects of it that I like - in fact there are few aspects I don't like, and none that I can actually think of right now! Whereas Ten and Rose really piss me off in Tooth and Claw.
Anyway, I'm gonna start to try and get off the pc, cos I'm tired and have an early start tomorrow. Thanks for the mega long comment :o)

It might have been there, as I think that was meant to be one of the themes of the episode. I really should start listening to Doctor Who better!
Shakespeare in Love is a pretty awesome film, with Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow. It's the film where Dame Judy Dench won an Oscar for 8 minutes, and it's fab. It's not related to Doctor Who at all, apart from both of them being about a key individual in British history :) I was just sorta comparing and contrasting. One has a budget of millions and goes on for two hours, with several Oscars to its name, the other has a much smaller budget and lasts for 45 mins. Sorta ruins the effect, but still good :)
I was thinking maybe Five met Shakespeare after Ten met Shakespeare but who met him after Four met him, but I'm not sure that's right. Still, how does Shakespeare know that all of them are the same man/timelord/alien? Maybe that explains it. I think he was maybe pandering to Will's ego, so that people who don't know any classic who won't get confused, although it would have made a nice link for the old school fans. *sigh*
I'm glad it's not just me that has to "fix things" in my head around the story. I don't know if you watched the last ep of Life On Mars, but I had to sort that out too.
Red Dwarf/Doctor Who/Shakespeare Cat Love! Is there any thing better? love your icon btw!
Yeah, I've heard about this. I reckon the Doctor was looking to sorta check up on a non-existant rose in her time, and found there was something dodgy going on at that hospital, which is why he was there (which is why he was in the hospital), and so he picked up Martha from the same time.
Yeah, I saw that. Twas good, although I must admit, I missed some of the references to the classic series, purely because *hides* I'm not really a four fan. That said, I haven't seen much of the stuff, it's just because everyone else seems to be, which is silly, but then so am I :P
Ruff-stuff: just a bit Grr-y because it's such a difficult thing to mess up on. Surely if they'd done any research into dress at all (which I presume they had) they'd realise that Ruffs were popular already, and well built into modern fashion? It was a funny idea, getting the Doctor to introduce the Ruff to Shakespeare, but really. The Doctor can't be responsible for everything.
It looks to me like they're staying with the formula they had last year :| My favourite "celebrity historical" is The Unquiet Dead I think, I just really enjoyed it :D
Tooth & Claw is alright, but yeah, it is a bit annoying.
Still, I'm so glad it's back on TV, and I can squee my heart out again! How I love you, Doctor Who!! *happy happy sigh*

The 'words mean power' thing was done fairly well, I thought. I loved how the Doctor said that Rose would've said the right thing, and then Martha ends up saying the right thing to finish Shakespeare's 'spell'.
I have not seen Life on Mars. I want to. Time travel and the 70s are both things that I love, so I don't understand why I didn't watch it when it started. Now I don't have the time, and even if I did, I'd have to rent the dvds just to catch up. Maybe I'll get them in the summer, once I'm done with all the other things I have to read and watch. I also really want to rent All Creatures Great and Small. I need more Petey.
Thanks :o) Icon by agentcompassion, if I remember rightly.
You need to see more Four. He has SJ. And Leela. And K9. And Romana. And Adric (he's more likeable with Four than with Five, I find). You have my list of recommendations :o)
Well, the queen was wearing a ruff, wasn't she? I think the Doctor was just giving Shakespeare a ruff he'd found, and telling him it suited him. After all, he wouldn't have found a ruff in the theatre's supplies (which, I assume, is where he found it) if they hadn't already been in fashion - which, as you say, they were.
And yeah, I love The Unquiet Dead too. That's the one my godson found terrifying :o) And Nine being a Dickens fanboy - adorable.

One thing I forgot to mention - I thought this was the most like Classic Who New Who has ever been. Lots of running round, and even (i think) some shaky setness. And just general more classicy :D
