"some mistakes shouldn’t be made, nor should they be repeated. after the first time, it’s no longer a learning experience. it’s a burden." when you're in love, how far is too far? if you push the boundaries, you need to be prepared to face the consequences.
note: this is set before the last paragraph of the first part. i hope that makes sense...?
part one | part three

There was a knock on the door. Jinki hadn’t heard it at first, of course, as he was asleep, but the persistent knocking became louder and louder and more rapid as time went on. Jinki, having now woken up, ignored it, but soon found that it was so loud he could hardly concentrate on anything else. He slowly pulled himself out of bed, shivering slightly due to the cold air blowing through his apartment (he made a mental note to close that damn window later), before making his way to the front door. He opened the door slowly and peeked outside to see who was there. He was surprised and slightly baffled to find Taemin on his doorstep in nothing more than a singlet and pyjama pants, shivering away in the cold.

“Taemin, what are you doing here?” The younger boy didn’t respond. He seemed to be staring intently at the door frame, his mouth tight-lipped and his eyes distant and dull. It was as though someone had turned off the globe that gave him his happy, bright aura. His usual shine was gone. “Taemin-ah?” Jinki stepped toward the younger boy who flinched away from him. “Come inside before you catch a cold.” The younger boy complied, but the vacant look in his eyes remained. Once Jinki had given the younger boy some warmer clothing and settled him on his bed, he turned to leave.

“Stay with me?” the younger boy asked hoarsely. Jinki was taken aback - Taemin looked so frightened at that point in time, and never before had he been discontented to sleep alone. Jinki slipped around the side of the bed and slid in next to Taemin, who shifted just a little further away. This confused Jinki; hadn’t the boy just asked him to stay? Whatever the reason, Jinki decided to leave him be for the moment and shifted a little closer to the edge of the bed, so as to give the younger boy some more room.

Breakfast the following morning was a strange affair. Worry was eating away at every part of Jinki’s being, so he had no appetite whatsoever, and Taemin just sat at his end of the table idly moving his food around his plate and flinching at every little sound from the streets outside.

“Taemin! Yah, Lee Taemin, look at me!” Jinki was getting frustrated with the boy's refusal to talk. All through breakfast he had just sat there playing with his food and, other than asking him to stay earlier that morning, Taemin hadn't said a single word. Obviously something big had happened this time and all Jinki wanted to do was help, but he couldn't possibly do that if he didn't know what the hell had happened. “Taemin, you need to tell me what happened. I can fix this; I can make sure he won't ever hurt you again. All you have to do is tell me what happened.” The younger boy shook his head and swallowed slowly.

“I... no, I can't.” Taemin's voice came out in a hoarse whisper. ”It was an accident; h-he didn't know,” he said, dropping his fork loudly onto the table. Tears welled in the younger boy's eyes, but when Jinki stepped forward to embrace his distressed friend, he found himself being pushed by the younger boy who was now looking down at him with wide, frightened eyes. Taemin blinked a few times as tears started streaking down his pale cheeks. “I'm sorry. Just... don't.”

Jinki shook his head as the younger boy stalked off, announcing that he needed a shower. Perfect, he thought, grabbing the phone off the wall and dialing Jonghyun’s number. He wanted an explanation.

Two days later and Taemin thought it was about time to be going back home. He was still reluctant to talk, so Jinki had no idea what sort of danger he was going back to. Nonetheless, the kid was old enough to look after himself… or, at least, Jinki hoped he was. He felt ill as he waved the younger boy off and watched him enter his apartment and run straight into the arms of Jonghyun. He didn’t know if this feeling was jealously or just plain worry (or maybe even a mixture of both), but he really wanted it to just go away.

He didn’t hear anything from Taemin (good or bad) for over a week - a fact which worried Jinki - until the younger boy called him, sobbing loudly and speaking too fast for Jinki to possibly understand. Figuring it was important, Jinki grabbed his coat and drove as quickly as he could (without speeding) to Taemin’s apartment.

A/N: This is the second of three parts. Part three should be up within the next few days, and it'll be longer to make up for the length of this one. ^^ Part three is up. Again, the time line will jump backwards, though (which is why I split it into parts).
Also, emeliahsummers , if you read this, I apologise for killing the oat. The under appreciated oats were ganging up on me! :'(
