Things I saw in Kyushu, Part I (Knitting Person Edition)

Jan 26, 2012 11:56

I spent four days and three nights in Kyushu, going from Fukuoka to Beppu and stopping by Yufuin for a morning too. The problem of not speaking Japanese and also not having any sense of history (especially Korean history) I am not able to actually name the places I went.   But I still had a super time!

One of the things I found totally charming every place I went was the fact that someone had crocheted or knit little caps for the little stone Buddha figures for winter.

The one above scared me at first because it's also wearing a poncho and something about the poncho made me feel viscerally alarmed, like the statue was gonna start talking.

I really like ideas like the below, because otherwise lil monk would be bald and would definitely look 'cold.'

And my favorite set of little monks  There were six of them in a semi circle, and all their faces are so different.  So you here you have the Goody Two Shoes Pair.

This is the I Feel The Spirit Pair.

And I don'tknow exactly what Buddhist principle thes two are supposed to be, but to me they look like, "It was not my fault! ... Ok maybe it was."
