SERI 연구에세이 006 우마드 - 여성시대의 새로운 코드 (김종래 지음)
"우마드는 우아한 옷차림을 즐기면서도 일할 때는 전투적이다. 여성적인 옷차림에 화려한 화장으로 우아하게 단장하지만 일할 때는 빈틈 없다. 우마드는 기본적으로 돈에 관심이 많다. 동대문 보세 옷에 몇백 만 원짜리 핸드백을 조화롭게 들고 다닌다. 우마드는 명품을 좋아하지만 명품에 집착하지는 않는다. 값비싼 보석에 열광하지도 않는다. 가볍고 세련된 이미테이션만으로도 충분히 분위기를 낼줄 안다. 우마드는 가볍지만 품위가 있다.
최근에 성공하는 여성들의 특징 가운데 하나가 부드러움 이다. 일 할 때는 강인하지만, 평상시 인간관계에서는 남자들처럼 상하 위계질서를 엄격히 따지려 하지 않는다. 평화롭고 사랑스러우면서도 열정적으로 진취적인 모습이 바로 우마드 시대에 성공하는 여성상이다. 우마드는 행복과 즐거움을 동시에 추구한다."
Short little book about a supposedly 'new' kind of woman, the woman nomad = womad, which is a hideous word but he tried, I guess, the author. And it was mostly interesting for two reasons: He goes on and on about the history of Mongolia, and how powerful women played a huge role in Mongolian history (according to him) and how Mongols were not as sexist as the Koreans of the middle ages. Interesting because I'd never thought about it, Mongols, especially Mongolian women.
The other interesting thing is that I thought I was so unique, but apparently I'm just part of a social trend this person identified in like 2006. The quote above says basically- a womad is a woman who dresses feminine, wears nice clothes, but fights and works without hesitation and high levels of competence. A 'womad' is strong when she's working, but in normal day to day interactions doesn't try to maintain hierarchical power relations the way men do.
