my embarrassing childhood

Oh my gosh. I just found my fifth grade class journal, and amongst all my gushing about MC Hammer, I found this gem:

October 8, 1990

Yesterday I listened to a song called Ice Ice Baby. It was real good.

It was followed up a couple weeks later by:

This weekend my neighbor let me borrow his The The Extreme tape. It was good. There's this one part where it goes "Yo Vanilla. Let's kick it one more time boyeeeee."

Not just good, but REAL good!

This is honestly the best entry I've read on LJ so far today.

Quality wins over quantity, anyday.

Why, thanks! You see, it's not that I really liked Vanilla Ice back in 1990--I was just totally aiming to amuse and delight my 2004 readers. :)

Wow...I never did *that*. Although I certainly listened to, sang to, and danced to embarassing music, I never wrote about it! :)

However, I was heavy on rules even when I was young (probably have lightened up a bit over the years, actually), including phonics rules, and I remember arguing on a school bus one time that the second part of Tone Loc's name should be pronounced "Lock."

We had to write daily for class, so I guess it was the most exciting thing in my life at that point. :) I was also really bummed about missing the MC Hammer concert in town, I hated my sister enough to consider running away (I still do!), and I called my non-friends "lowdown rats" a lot. Hah.
