Train = good
I got the the festival a few songs before Tonic ended, which was perfect timing IMO because I'm not a huge Tonic fan but they put on a pretty good show. Emerson looks so different every time I see him. I missed his cowboy hat.
Anyway, after Tonic ended, the front gate area behind the VIP section cleared out and so I got a prime spot to see Train. They put on such a good show! Pat is SO fun to watch. He dances around the stage and acts out the lyrics and gets the crowd involved and it's quite entertaining. He kept asking for security to let more people into the VIP section because it was only around half full, but no dice. Toward the end of the set, some girl was leaving the VIP section and gave me her pass, so I got to get right up front. Rad.
They played mostly hits, of course, because it was a festival, but I was ok with that since I don't listen to the radio and the singles weren't too played out. Their usual "Ramble On" cover was extended to include part of Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side" and Zep's "Whole Lotta Love." Also, they covered Sublime's "What I Got." How funny is that?! My only disappointment is that Pat didn't play any instruments like he did the first couple times I saw them (back in Ye Olde Goode Days of 1999). It was a great show. Thanks to
melhar for the tip, or I never would have known!
Afterwards, I met my family at a hotel on Jax Beach (they were celebrating my sister's graduation yesterday) and we woke up early to see the sunset over the water this morning. Not a bad trip.
